Kirsten Brecht

Kirsten Brecht is a managing partner of Constellar Group. She has a diverse background in strategy, marketing and communications. She has built companies and has served as both an industry executive and a consultant with ventures from start-up to Fortune 50 status.

Ms. Brecht is a growth, marketing and communications specialist whose expertise includes:

  • Providing practical, data-driven solutions to help clients grow revenue, improve their business models and build long-term value
  • Formulating, evaluating and articulating growth strategies, particularly for enterprises undergoing key transitions
  • Managing market research projects to determine strategic direction or to evaluate the value, market size and viability of new initiatives
  • Developing fact-based marketing and communication strategies and tactics, and overseeing their effective deployment in the field

Previously, Ms. Brecht served as a senior strategic consultant for the Monitor Group, a highly regarded strategy-consulting firm. For Monitor, she was responsible for project-based solutions for Fortune 250 companies in corporate growth and operations strategy, with a focused expertise in marketing and communications. She spent her last two years at Monitor developing intellectual capital in marketing strategy.

Ms. Brecht’s experience includes running a real estate investment company as well as a residential remodeling company. She served as the founding VP of Sales and Marketing for two early-stage companies, both in the technology space. Ms. Brecht holds an MBA in entrepreneurial management and marketing from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School, and a BA in political science and Russian from the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Richard Brecht

Dr. Richard Brecht has been Executive Director of the Center for Advanced Study of Language at the University of Maryland since its founding in 2003.

Having received his M.A. and Ph.D. from Harvard in Slavic Languages and Literatures, he is professor of Russian at the University of Maryland. Dr. Brecht has been a principal in the founding and development of numerous national organizations and projects, including:

Dr. Brecht also served on the original Group of Advisors to the National Security Education Program, advised on the original proposal for the National Language Service Corps, and took a leading role in the National Language Conference of 2004. Dr.  Brecht serves on the Boards of Visitors of the Defense Language Institute and CIA University; the Board of Directors of the American Council of Teachers of Russian, the Language Flagship Group; and, the National Boards of Advisors of USED’s National Language Resource Centers for African, Heritage, and National Middle East Languages.

Dr. Brecht has made hundreds of presentations and authored and edited numerous books and articles on language policy, second language acquisition, and Slavic and Russian linguistics.
